Stainless Steel 304

GENERALS
Type 18-8 stainless steel balls are used when conditions of qualities and toughness of material not available in hardnable stainless. It's pricipal application is on valves and related fields.

MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
Extreme toughness, low magnetic permeability, high tensile strength at elevated temperatures and resistance to scaling. This material work hardens quite rapidly. All balls of this material are passivated.

HARDNESS
Annealed Rockwell B-75 to 95 measured on parallel flats.
Not annealed Rockwell C-39 maximum measured on parallel flats.

Stainless Steel 410/420

GENERALS
Balls of these materials of a lower chrome content than 440C are in demand in majority of applications where more rigid corrosion resistance requirements are relaxed.

MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
AISI 410
General purpose heat treatable type. All balls of this material are passivated.
AISI 420
Higher carbon modification of AISI 410 steel distinguishes this heat treatable general purpose stainless steel.

HARDNESS
AISI 410-Rockwell C-40 minimum, measured on parallel flats.
AISI 420-Rockwell C-52 measured on parallel flats.

Stainless Steel 316

GENERALS
Similar to type 302 but the addition of Molybdenum improves corrosion resistance. Developed to effectively resist corrosion of sulphuric acid compounds.

MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
This steel has higher tensile and creep strength at elevated temperature than conventional 18-8 alloys. All balls of this material are passivated.

Stainless Steel 440C

GENERALS
Balls of this straight chromium steel are designed to provide stainless properties with maximum hardness. They are always used in a hardened condition and in some respects behave similar to tool steels.

MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
Outstanding characteristic is high hardness. Material is ferro-magnetic and makes a fair permanent magnet as hardened ball, not readily machinable. All balls of this material are passivated.

HARDNESS
Rockwell C-58 to 65 measured on parallel flats.
